“We are in first class. Look at our paintings of the sea and the seaside. We used paint and tissue paper to make these pictures. Can you find a lighthouse? Can you find a whale? What other sea creatures do you see? Spot the difference between the sea and the seaside.”
First Class listened to the book “The Song of the Sea” and learned about the legend of the Selkies. They investigated sea life and coastal life by looking at photos of coastal areas and the world under the sea. They used paint to portray the wildness of the waves and then chose whether to make their painting about coastal life or under the sea. They used tissue paper to create sea life and coastal buildings and features. Most children loved the photo of the lighthouse warning ships away from the rocks so it features in a lot of their paintings.
