How can you help your child’s educational development?
Attendance
St. Mary’s J.N.S encourages full attendance. When your child is absent from school you should provide a note to the class teacher on the day of their return. The Department of Education is automatically informed of any child over the age of six who has missed twenty days of school.
Punctuality
School begins at 8.50am. It is important for children to be in their classrooms on time every day. We operate an early bird incentive scheme in which students are rewarded for their punctuality.
Homework
Homework is an important part of the learning process. This valuable time gives you, the parent / guardian the opportunity to monitor your child’s progress in school.
All children receive homework on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. A typical night’s homework might include the following (but may vary slightly from class to class);
Junior Infants
A Junior Infants student would be expected to spend no more than 10 minutes at their homework.
Senior Infants
A Senior Infants student would be expected to spend no more than 15 minutes at their homework.
