2nd class went on a great outdoor adventure to the Irish Museum of Modern Arts grounds at Kilmainham.

15th Oct 2021

Mr. Devine's 2nd class went on a great adventure to the Irish Museum of Modern Arts grounds at Kilmainham. They were invited by Clodagh Emoe, our Arts Associate, as part of research for our Creative Schools project in establishing our own Classroom in the Sun outdoor classroom and sensory garden project.

The tour marked the continuation of our Creative Schools journey in exposing the children to the great outdoors. The children toured the formal gardens and meadows, exploring the flora and fauna of IMMA and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham and Clodagh Emoe's studio (artist in residence). The Head Gardener also invited the children to visit the nursery, a top-secret place where all the seedlings of the magnificent plants that grow in the grounds of the museum are hidden away until they are ready to be planted on the visitor access gardens.

From Sandra Murphy, tour guide with the IMMA Visitor Engagement Team:  "A truly wonderful experience for all of us, it has to be said. So good to see children enjoying the outdoors and getting their hands dirty. The children are a credit to you and your wonderful colleague, James. Clodagh has embarked on a great adventure for us all."

2nd class should be very proud of themselves as we all are here at St. Mary's Junior NS. There will be further visits to the IMMA for our other 2nd classes over the coming weeks.

Keep an eye out on our school website for continued reports on all our children's adventures as we continue on our Creative Schools journey.....
