Active Week @ St. Mary's
The children took part in ACTIVE WEEK this week at St. Mary's and what a week of fun we had! There were activities in the yard including skipping, bowling, hula hooping, parachute fun, basketball shots, rocket launchers, balloon tennis, football shoot-out, and beanbag target practice to name a few. The children even took on the teachers in a giant game of dodgeball! Active homework included Simon Says fitness fun and Spell Your Name workout challenge. The children got a chance to showcase their creative skills and designed their own obstacle course and some even put their engineering skills to practice and made obstacle courses at home using toys, furniture and other household items.
During this fun week of activities, we also brought our classroom outdoors. We incorporated some active literacy skills with our Alphabet Scavenger Hunt in the garden. We finished off the week in style with a yard disco where the children showed off their very impressive dance moves!
The importance of physical activity from an early age should never be underestimated and contributes hugely to a child's development. It enhances and promotes the development of motor skills, bones and muscles, as well as cognitive and social skills.
Remember to get out and get active every day over the summer holidays kids!
