Bord Bia Bloom in the Phoenix Park

30th May 2022

We entered the postcard garden category in this year’s Bord Bia Bloom in the Phoenix Park which took place from the 2nd – 6th of June. Inspired by the interest from our gardening group in the school and the Creative Schools project within the school which explored the development of a sensory garden, the theme of our entry was ‘Sensing our way through the Rumbles of the Jungle’ based on the popular children’s book ‘Rumbles in the Jungle’ by author Giles Andreae. The aim of this entering this garden was to further develop community collaboration through community engagement and community relationship building. We identified an opportunity to further promote Literacy and enhance links with North Clondalkin Library by integrating Literacy through gardening in order to connect with people in a meaningful way. We would like to thank Julie from North Clondalkin Library for her significant contribution to this project.

Well done to our students and teachers who created many crafts to include in the display including creative butterflies, birds, jungle animals and painted rocks.

Thanks to Lucan Garden Centre who provided the plants for this entry. Thanks for the group from the Men’s Shed on Fonthill Road who came to the set-up day and gave great support in setting up the garden and children’s crafts. Thank you to our parents Ami O’Brien who created the fabulous sign for the back board using a range of recyclable materials and to Jackie, Debbie and Marie who came in to the school on several occasions in the run up to the event to help organise the student’s art work for displaying on the entry.

Thank you to the parent's group who attended the trip to Bloom on Friday the 3rd of June. An enjoyable day was had by all.  We were delighted to successfully be awarded as ‘Best in Show’ and a ‘Certificate of Distinction’ for our entry. This was a wonderful achievement for our students, parents and the wider school community involved. Well done to all the boys and girls who contributed.
