First Classes visit the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland

18th Nov 2021

Our 1st classes braved the elements this week and ventured to Glasnevin to explore the wonderous things on offer at the Botanical Gardens.

Tour guide Melissa took them on a journey of discovery around the colours, scents, and textures of the Gardens. She explained why we sense and interact with the natural world the way we do, the many benefits of nature for our health and wellbeing, and how we can share these ideas in our homes and gardens to reconnect with natural landscapes and rhythms. The children discussed the hot topic of biodiversity with Melissa and our very own Creative Associate Clodagh Emoe, whilst finding out about the importance and variety of plants and other life in the Gardens. The children spotted squirrels and giant cabbages, listened to the magical story of the lonely tree, and even got to hear how Vikings used the 'bathroom' whilst exploring the Viking Hut on site!

Of course, these trips were in continuing our Creative Schools journey in gathering research for our ongoing Classroom in the Sun project.

Check out how the children got on in Glasnevin......
