Stepping Stone Forest Classroom @ St. Mary's
A great team of volunteers descended on St. Mary's school grounds on Tuesday, November 23rd to begin the ground preparation for our outdoor forest classroom or "stepping stone forest". The children were instrumental in taking ownership of this project guided by the knowledgeable and friendly volunteers who explained what the project was all about. The area was prepared by laying down newspapers and bark mulch so as to warm up the soil over the coming months in time for planting over 500 native Irish trees in March.
This super outdoor learning opportunity was received with much excitement by the children and adults alike as they joined in transferring the mulch by the bucket around the horse-shoe-shaped area. A woven willow tree tunnel will eventually provide the entrance to what will become an open classroom area surrounded by a forest.
Many thanks to all the children that got a chance to take part on the day, Collinstown TY students, and the 5th class pupils for their help on the day. Check out this week's Echo for full coverage of the day's events!
A special mention to Niall and the two Johns and their team of volunteers from Tallaght Litter Mugs and Dodder Action for making the day so special for the children of St. Mary's. You can see all the incredible projects going on with John and his team at Stepping Stone Forest Schools
Be sure to check back in March 2022 when we will be planting our trees!
