We were delighted to host Jo May, ReCreate Ireland's Creative Facilitator on Thursday, June 3rd to engage the children in contributing to ReCreate's curious B: A 21ST CENTURY OUTDOOR CURIOSITY CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE an interactive creative installation, a showcase of curiosities, imaginations, and voice of the children in Ireland as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2021 South Dublin. The project aims to explore, design, and build an outdoor curiosity classroom of the future.
Cruinniú na nÓg is a flagship initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Creative Youth Plan to enable the creative potential of children and young people. Ireland is the first, and only, country in the world to have a national day of free creativity for children and young people under 18. Saturday June 12th 2021 is this year's day of celebrations. Children from across the school from junior infants right up to second class got the chance to get their creative juices flowing with a selection of materials brought by Jo on the day. ReCreate specialise in sourcing end of line, remaindered, surplus, and unwanted materials and items with potential from local businesses and use these as Arts and Crafts materials. Items included bottle caps, empty plastic bottles, smoothie container lids, straws, foam, materials, old CDs, marker lids, jam jar lids, old teddies, old jigsaw pieces, left-over pencils, cardboard boxes to name but a few! The list of treasures was endless and all materials that would have eventually been thrown in the bin or recycled :(
The children were tasked with creating a giant mandala made from all these recycled materials that will be used as a sensory display at Liberty Square, Tallaght from June 12th for two weeks as part of the celebrations of Cruinniú na nÓg 2021 South Dublin. The children also created their own minibeasts using a variety of these recycled materials. I hope you'll agree there were some interesting, wild, and indeed imaginative creations all invented by our incredibly artistic children. Why not take a look.....
